Hi,
I got this abandoned piggy (probably peruvian and less than 1 year old)) from a pet shop, He's really skinny and has dry crusty drandruff like things on its fur, it's mostly on his head and gradually lessens as it moves down his body. He also has bald patches. He was found in an ice cream tub with a dried piece of cucumber. i just want to know if there is anything I can do to lessen his pain and the sratching. I can only bring him to the vet on saturday. He is currently fed with Oxbow timothy pellets, timothy hay, enervon-c for kids and fresh fruit and vegetables. he doesn't eat a lot, at least not as much as my other piggies.
Thanks Vanessa

He's like half the size of my other piggies, I'm going to send him to Namly this Saturday. I'm giving him SUPRA-CELL N400 for injuries and healing of wounds and N200 for loss of hair, lustreless of fur and eczemas. He only eats pellets which are mashed up and mixed with water. He would crush the pellets with his feet if they are given in dry form.

Man....why does he have to crush the pellets? Isn't he used to eating pellets? What on earth did his previous owner feed him? Or is it because his mouth hurts or something? How's his progress? Poor poor pig.. he could be really cute if he was healthy..but he's an abby, I think..not a peruvian..what do you pple think?

the pet shop ppl said that he looks like a peruvian, maybe not pure breed though. his hair has started to grow longer, most of the bald patches are covered up but he bites his hind legs until there is blood.

I think he was in the tub for a at least 1 day before the pet shop owners found him. He was found with nothing but a dried piece of cucumber. They said that the box is about his size, he can't really move around much in it.

Once the water dries up, he won't eat the pellets. He doesn't seem to like fresh vegetables also, he eats mostly hay. He loves enervon-c though. He also doesn't walk properly sometimes.

Well getting it to the vet would be a good start so at least you will know exactly what's wrong & it can get the proper treatment. With regards to food, can ask Dr Ling for advice. Its good that at least it eats hay & vitamin C. Some ppl feed the pellets at certain hours & don't leave it there 24 hours a day. So for the moment I guess its fine to feed it mashed pellets, but for the long term basis try to convert it back to regular pellets. As for veg, could be that its a fussy eater or that its not used to being fed veg. Either way, perhaps you can try a variety of veg. Hopefully there will be one or two types it likes.

Gee..never heard of a guinea pig not liking vegs before. I suppose its previous owner really ill treated him. How come he doesn't walk properly? does he limp or something? They found him directly outside the pet shop?
