The latest batch or Orchard Grass is not too bad..very nice and green..only..i found this LONG STIFF STEM!! eeeek... it's REALLY long... and stiff as a twig..eeek!! I just dun think it's wise to feed timothy hay if u're already using a timothy based pellet like cavy cuisine..surely variety is better, right?

There's nothing wrong with feeding timothy hay & timothy based pellets. Besides, timothy hay is the most common hay.

I dunno if it's just me, but sometimes, a packet of hay looks really lush and green from the outside.. but the inside looks more yellowish, somehow.. dunno if the manufacturers pack it that way on purpose.. but i wouldn't be surprised, really..

Nonsense. Chinchillas are as choosy as guinea pigs. It's entirely up to the individual pet. Seriously. I keep 2 guinea pigs, but I used to have 8. Now, I keep 11 chinchillas. Some pigs are more fussy than other pigs, some chins are more fussy than other chins. I have 1 chin who is a super greedy tike, eats anything and everything. And I have sum who are super fussy picky creatures, where I have to keep changing brands of hay to please them. It has nothing to do with stems and leaves. It may have to do with the type of hay and smell, but not the part of the hay. That is up to the animal.
I also keep rabbits. So pls, don't make sweeping statements guys. Seriously. Not all rabbits eat stems as well. I have a spoilt brat who only touches leaves and digs out all her stems from the hay bowl (better not let her previous owner hear. lol Cos she is the one who spoilt her). And the other 2 rabbits devour almost everything. So I say this again, it's up to the individual pet. Just cos 1 or 2 of tat animal accepts something, doesn't mean the entire species does the same.
Urbanpets closed their shop months ago, cos the owner relocated to USA. HRSS members still keep in touch with her and import fresh hay from USA for their rabbits. If anyone wants good hay, you might want to approach them. I heard that Pets Essentials is also working with HRSS to supply good quality hay.
Wld like to add something. Sorry if my tone is a little strong, I don't want to offend anybody. But I dislike pp making declarations and sweeping statements before doing more research on the subject. Especially considering if a person's experience is limited to only 1 or 2 chinchillas, or 1 or 2 rabbits. I try to keep an open mind as best as I can in life.
I personally consider my own knowledge inferior to someone who keeps 1000 chinchillas, or 29 rabbits. So I wld prefer to listen and discuss rather than accept something as concrete immediately, based on my own limited experience.

So are mine.. Think we spoil them..cos choco isn't so choosy..his old owner neglected him... so he probably had to make do with eating old hay when he was hungry..unlike our pigs.. who get their food replenished regularly
