And I would like to add that on 2 occasions I pricked my hand when stuffing hay into the rack. On closer inspection, I found these long, thick stick like things with thorns on them. Imagine what will happen if our cavies bite into those! Seriously no point complaining esp since we're in a different country. You'd just get some PR crap from them. For me, I intend to just boycott them & get better hay. I went to Pet Safari & the Sam & Yick corner had this beautiful green & leafy hay in their cages. They refused to say where they got it from, but I believe its from Park Chinchilla. As I said, I saw their unbranded bags of timmy. Looked pretty good. Definitely more decent than Oxbow for sure! Sorry to say this but Oxbow's hay used to be good but now it both sucks & blows!!

OOoh.. how much is Park Chinchilla's hay? I saw it too.., i think... small bags right? About the size of oxbow's 15 oz bag? Yeah..really green and leafy..I'm on APD now.. bought the huge box..it's fine, I guess.. but it's got quite a lot of brown...but my cavies take better to it than oxbow's timmy.. What I wanna try is the hay Aquila uses..I saw it..really really nice and green..cheap too.. 8 bucks per packet.. and 20 bucks for 3 packets... it's fresh timmy that they use for the horses at the turf club.. but since it's fresh, I guess buying 3 packs is not too good, since it might not be used up fast enough to retain its freshness.. unless 3 of us can get together and buy..

Really depends on how much your pigs eat... I had reservations too.. but i decided to try it out... maybe can get somone to share with you... for now, i have 3 pigs, so i think it's not so bad... btw, if the hay is nice, the pigs will eat more... i think shirleen said her pigs finished one rack full of APD in an hour..that's what prompted me to try..

Hay does not make cavies fat. As for APD hay, I've tried before. Its soft & leafy but unfortunately also tends to be brown. Like I said, Park Chinchilla's timothy seems to be the most decent so far.
I don't know about hay for horses but overseas you'll notice the hay they feed cows are all yellow & very coarse. I guess cows are not as fussy as cavies about hay.

The 'hay' they feed cows may not necessarily be the same kind of hay we give our pigs.. overseas, cattle eats stuff like mangold wurtzels and something else (forgot the name) in addition to hay..
