actually i dun mind shopping at either sgn gdn or sgn nth cos both are quite near my place...But usually shop at nth cos it's cheaper...never see hay that u guys are talkign about leh....i bought unlabelled hay from Pet Kiosk before...it's rather green & fresh & my piggies love it very much...but it's not economical to feed them cos each pack cost $8 & they eat 2 packs in 1 week....imagine my expenses for an entire month....I fed them that hay for two months cos there was a period when oxbow was out of stock....so broke that time...*sigh*..
Anyway, i find that the Oxbow Orchard grass is different nowadays......the hay looks so different...

In my 2 bags, I found those hay heads. You know, those furry long things. Those are found only in timothy hay. Orchard grass hay doesn't have hay heads like this. Their hay head is in small bunches.

Yes I'm talking about Oxbow. If not for the fact that I just bought two 32 oz bags of orchard grass & that I live so far away, if not I'd have gotten timothy hay from Park Chinchilla. Dunno wat brand it is 'cos no label. Can't remember the price either but it was green & leafy.
Oxbow is getting from bad to worst. In the past their timothy was excellent then it became very stick like, less green & too finely chopped. So I switched to their orchard grass hay. But that too has dropped in quality & like I said in my previous post, judging from the hay head, it seems like they're trying to pass off timothy as orchard grass hay. Because to the best of my knowledge, only timothy hay has long furry hay heads that resemble the cattail you find near ponds.
I did email them before & their excuse was that the hay turns brown due to the time it takes to travel from US to here, plus storage in supplier's warehouse, etc.
I find that crap 'cos if in the past it was ok, why isn't it ok now? The delivery time & all is the same what. Plus it doesn't explain why their hay is all twig like.
They claim that even in the US, their hay is not labelled as first & second cutting. I have my doubts simply 'cos US folks always go on about how soft their hay is but we are the direct opposite.
The other possibility is they reserve the good stuff for domestic sales & give us the crap. Why? Because firstly in the US, ppl can sue easily & they don't want to get sued for selling crappy hay. Secondly, we are considered a tiny market so heck with us.
Just my 2 cents worth.
