Finally got Arnie neutered today at Namly Animal Clinic. It was Dr Chan who did the operation on him.
before the operation, Dr Chan spoke to me for a while and did warn me of the risks involved. As you all know, small animals don't react as well to anesthetics as well as larger animals, and some might never wake up again. but before that one of the assistants told me that they had never experienced such a failure before...which I assumed meant that they had a 100% success rate.
Dr Chan also told me some of the possible complications of the surgery. The pig should eat and drink as normal immediately after the surgery, and the wounds should heal in about 1 to 2 weeks. But its safer to put the male pig back with a female after 3 or 4 weeks, if not there might be a chance of him making her pregnant during that time.
She told me to moniter his food intake, make sure that he eats per normal, if not might have to forcefeed him lest his condition goes downhill. Make sure that his beddings are kept very clean so as not to infect the wounds. And to check his wound daily to check for any swellings or abscesses, if so might have to bring him back for a checkup.
I brought Arnie there in the morning at about 9.30, and they called me up at 2pm to let me know that I could pick him up at around 3.30.
Arnie was happily munching away on his hay in the basket when I reached there. hehe.. I'm glad his eating normally. Will continue to moniter his wound. Have put him in an extra cage.. too bad he has to be lonely for 1 month before he can go back to Sugar.. but guess it's for the best.
oh yah, the surgery cost me $70. the slip actually had $3+ of gst, but they didn't collect that from me, just the $70.
