Ran an online check..yeap..the 13.3 kg's the 40 L one.. Sigh.. I wonder if the new big one will be more expensive. Anyway, BC 13.3kg's selling for AU$15.50 in Australia..that's less than $20.00 singapore dollars.. have to pay for the shipping fee right? anyway now the aussie exchange rate is high.

have to pay for the shipping fee right? anyway now the aussie exchange rate is high. Don't think they even ship out of Australia. But that ain't the point. You see, when you have a deal to import a product into your country, the manufacturers will give you a discount cos 1)You're buying in bulk and regularly 2) It's a common thing to supply stuff at lower prices to distributors This discount is enough to cover the freight plus profit margins etc so that you'll be able to sell at at the same retail price as they do back in the home country. However, many greedy distributors recognize the demand and jack up the prices. A good example would be Levi's jeans...

Today I went to a neighbourhood petshop near my place and saw the swheat scoop. It's the small animals packaging, only 10 lbs, and costs $11.80. That's the only size for small animals. It's like a medium size packet of BC. What's the price of BC that size? Is it more ex? Anyway, the swheat scoop isn't very fine. It's granular, something like corbcobs, although they say its dust free, but of course there's still a amount of dust which I think even BC also has. I'm wondering if the granules for the cat litter is bigger in size, or if its just the same but only bigger packagings. I haven't tried it yet cos I just changed the beddings few days ago. Will update again when I start using it.

Oh, you bought it huh? Anyway, dunno the price for a BC that size man.. maybe swheat scoop can be used, just don't put too much in at one time since it clumps up and is neat anyway? Can add more when needed, after clearing out clumps..

I have been trying the Swheat Scoop in one of my cages for 3 days. I quite like that fact that I can clean up the bedding using those cat litter scoops. With the right size of holes in the scoop, can also scoop away those larger sized poo pellets. Unlike in BC where if u want to clean away the poo you'd have to pick them up with your hands one by one. But every night when I clear away the clumped up bedding, the amount of bedding thrown away is quite substantial. I'm using this bedding for the 3 piggies which cages stay fresher for the longest and yet so much bedding is used up. I can't imagine using it for the other 2 cages where they pee really a lot. And another thing, the clumped up litter sticks to the bottom, so I have to slightly scrape it to dig it up. However the swheatscoop site says that we can sprinkle baking soda or household cooking spray(don't know what's this) and it wouldn't stick. Haven't tried it yet. And.. if your cavies kick a lot, you'd probably find the area around the cage messy with dry wheat granules. But well, at least those which fly out are clean and dry. Oh yeh, when I mentioned that the granules are like the size of corncobs, I forgot to mention that different brands of corncobs have different sizes, and Swheat scoop resemble the smaller kind. The colour is much more pleasing to the eye than BC.. and the smell is of erm.. wheat of course.. hehe. Smells like Nestum, or those kind of cereal. I don't quite like cereals, so not really pleased with the smell. But still can take it lah, at least its better than ammonia smell. So far there's no bad smell. Overall, I'm quite ok with the product. I might continue using it if I can find the larger packets. btw I think the price is roughly the same. For Swheat scoop of about the same size as 35L of BC, it's about $29. But that's using the price of the small packet I bought. I believe the prices of the bigger packets should be cheaper than $29, not very sure. Hope this is useful to anybody at all.

I guess the question now is whether its economically feasible. If one removes quiet a bit of bedding like u said, then one might finish the bag very quickly.

Hmmm..does it come in bigger packets than that? If it does, I don't mind trying..certainly sounds a whole lot more hygienic! Is the clumped up litter wet or dry? Cos BC's clumps tend to be wet for quite long, thus inviting flies in my case.

I think it'd depend on individual cavies, how much they pee a day.
The 10 lb packet I'm using now I think can be used for 2 weeks for a regular sized cage.
Anyway I think there was some mistake in my calculation. I calculated with the weight, but I think the volume would be a more suitable measurement to use. Too bad the SS doesn't state the volume.
Mel, the one I bought was the small animal bedding, and comes only in 10lb packs. The cat litter comes in 14, 25 or 40 lb packets. I believe the contents should be the same. But I haven't seen the big packets yet.
Mm, I'd say the clumps are dry, but of course, it has a certain maximum of water it can take before it becomes wet. Anyway if there's enough bedding in the cage, the dry granules would coat the outer surface of the clumps.
Yeah actually I quite prefer this SS to BC cos BC after some times becomes very dusty in the cage. I think its better to buy a small packet to try first? There might be other aspects of the bedding that some people might not like.

Mmmm... yeah... I know that swheat scoop has cat litter and small animal litter. And yeap, I believe the contents are the same - just wondering if the cat litter comes to Singapore. This litter sounds a whole lot more to my liking. I had hamsters last time, and used a clumping toilet sand for their toilet. I remember it being SO much more convenient to clean out their cage. And it'll be a huge bonus if it eradicates the problem with flies that I sometimes get. What would the volume of 40lb be, by estimation?? Any idea at all?? Guess a good way to compare would be to compare the volume of 10lb of BC with 10lb of SS...hmmz

I went back to the same store and found that they had the big packet of SS. I ordered it but it will only be delivered tonight. I'm sure some other places should have it as well, just gotta ask..
I'm really not sure about the volume. But I expect it to be used up faster that the 35L BC pack. Will only know after i use it..

after trying Fibrecycle Back-2-Nature i think it's not too bad. seems the bedding can last more than 1 week and it doesn't crump together like BC

Riiiight.... I bought the 35L BC (which is the new biggest size) for the same price as I used to buy the 13.3kg (which was 40L) - which shows that the price for BC has gone up! Blow those stupid distributors! We should all switch to something else like fibrecycle or swheat scoop to show they can't take advantage of what they perceive as inelastic demand!

And righht.. just found out that both BC and Fibrecycle are from the same company in Australia... BUT, are they from the same distributor in Singapore

me too, just bought 2 packets some days ago. Wanted to get back-2-nature but was out of stock. I'm using the swheat scoop for only one of my cages, still haven't tried it for the other 2 cages which gets wet faster.
do u guys think bc gets very dusty after a few days in the cage? or is it just me?
oh mel, the swheat scoop is about the same size as the 35L bc, maybe like the 40L one, but much heavier. I don't know, afterall, it's in small granules, so I believe more packed than BC. But looking at them, swheat scoop is a lot more expensive if u look at the volume like that.. the packet of BC cost me $27.50 while the SS was $40.80
