They are so cute ! They reminds me of my first 2 cavies that i bought, 2 female abbyssians. 1 brown, girl girl and 1 white, Angel. Hmm, they are still young, they look like a month or 2 to me, so u cannot tell for sure if they are pure abbyssians or not untill their rosettes start becoming bigger and lining up side to side each other, which is easier to see when they start to increase size. My girl girl is a pure abbyssian, she has had about 4-5 litters so far, for the pass 3 years. The latest litter, had only one baby, Lionking....lionking is a pure abbyssian. You can see that she is a pure abbyssian now that she is 4 months old. The criteria for a pure abbyssian also contains a rule that it must have 8 or more rosettes.

Hi people,
Yeah I know they are cute, but i have lost the white one. Next pic will be 2 brown, one is the same as above and the other is a bit smaller. According to the pet shop, they are 3 months old from Holland. Anyone know the diff between local and imported from physical appearance?

Hmm....If U are from Holland and I am from Singapore, are we different in anyway ? hehe still humans right?
I think overseas imports have thicker hair and generally grow to a smaller size when they are left overseas, because of cooler temperature. In singapore, their hair just do not grow as thick, but still just as long. Also, they tend to be more active.
So its a matter of time they get aclimated to our climate.
But of course, there are good imports and bad imports, good locals and bad locals, an import is not always of better quality than locals. So its kinda hard to answer ur question as its is very broad.
In simple terms, they are more or less the same....hehe

One of my cavy has dry skin look on her ear. According to the pet shop, applying lotion will make it better. But after few days passed, the skin still looks dry. Today I went to see a vet and according to the vet this is a fungus. hick... hick.... The vet said that my cavy is too small to be given medicine, but since its an urgent matter she gave it anyway. So everyday I need to apply some medicine to the affected area , and some oral to be feed, plus vit C. According to the vet, she said my cavy can not be 3 months old, she only weight 140gm. The pet shop told me they are 3 months I currently does not have a name for my both cavy. Thinking of giving name 'Stripe' and 'nutsake'. Why 'Stripe' coz, it has one white stripe on her head, and why 'nutsake' because she is infected with fungus. But my gf thinks 'nutsake' not a nice name, I need some feedback from you guys. thanks....

Hey the forum changed my word to 'nutsake', what I meant is 'S-h-i-t-a-k-e' why do they change the word automatically?

I like your white abby. He has a very cute face. I saw a white abby at Sam Yick Marine Parade yesterday. They have two beige colour crested or coronet...as they are still very tiny, i have no idea which breed are they cos the hair is so short. They also have a female texel. The texel has been there for a few weeks cos i remembered i saw her there last week. She is quite noisy when i was there last week...kept wheeking & pop corning...really sweet.
Imported piggies have thicker coat; roman nose; ears that are turned downwards...are bigger in size and have nicer facial features...cos their face are not so pointed looking cos some locals have very pointed faces & makes them look a bit like rats. Hee....My local Peruvian, Cowabunga has a rather pointed face too...but i dun mind. He is a sweek boy.
Actually your Abby's coat looks quite long...where did u buy them? Maybe they are cross with Peruvians so they may end up having semi long coat or long coat.

Their ears are facing downwards, but I thought all young cavy will have that kind of ear, and as they grow older their ear will 'stand up'. I just realized that Stripe has a bald patch at his front leg, I never realized this before because it was covered with his fur. Only when I was touching them and I felt some rough skin.... I am really dissapointed with the petshop, I bought it from PK at GWC.

Actually it does'nt matter whether your piggy has roman nose or pointy nose. It's just that a guinea pig with good quality features should have a relative flat nose....the face are usually broader. U can surf the internet for pictures of guinea pigs that won contest in guinea pigs contest overseas...u'll get an idea of how a show quality guinea pigs look like, compared to the normal ones found in Singapore. But it does'nt matter if u are not concern about the features...
Some guinea pigs have ears that are turned up. But piggies with ears that are turned downwards are considered better looking. Their ears dun stand up after they are older...it remains as it is.

btw, my piggies also have bald patches on their front paws. I tik it's natural cos i asked someone who has a lot of piggies & he mentioned that a lot of his piggies have bald patches on their front paws. As long as the bald patches does'nt spread to other parts of the body & the skin is not dry & flaky, ur piggies should be ok. If ur piggy really have fungus infection, u can buy Nova Spray or Johnson Tea Tree cream from petshops to treat them. Hope this helps.
