Hi! My hamster are quite picky about their food, one of them love banquet fruits bites, while the other love slius superior menu.. Even though both love their food, they will leave some of the pieces untouched and uneaten.. Usually eat up all the seeds and stuff liddat.. I'm wondering can I jus make my own hamster mix, consisting of wheat, rice grains, oats, barley and sun flower seeds as their main diet.. Is tis good for the hamster health? Or is it better if I mix all these with a hamster mix, for example, sluis or fruit bites? Any suggestion?

u mean your hamsters is choosy on his food? I'm using Minimal & Gex hamsters mix...i'm thinking & planing on fresh food diet for hamsters after some studies on hamsters health....hamsters mix is still an essential part of their diet, but guess i'll try to minimise it lor....(eg.1 meal per day)....in case u didn't notice....most hamsters mix doesn't contain Vitamin C...

They usually dun eat the mix I give them... And since I have two hamster who will only eat their own type of food, ocean and fruit bites, skye and sluis etc... Both ocean and skye likes the barley, oats, rice grains, wheat and sun flower seeds.. So I'm wondering can I jus feed them these as their main diet.. Each hamster only eat their own type of food, so like, I very scared the food will spoil lor..

Heard of Nutri-block before? It's a kind of hamster food in a block form where the mix is crash, mixed & made into block form...it is actually healthier for a hamster to have(or eat) a variety of mixed food cos u never know what each type nutrients a ham food would contain & ...u never know what kind of nutrients your ham is lack of if u only feed him with one or two types of food... I used to force feed m hams who are choosy on their diet....meaning i'll leave the remain food there for a day or 2 w/o giving em new food....i'm now giving my hamsters Minimal Mix & Gex Mix served to em in alternate days twice a day...once every 3 to 4 days,i'll feed em some fresh veges/carrots or cucumber....in addition, will give em some teats in alternate day too.... If u are worry that your ham food will get spoiled easily...put em in zip-lock bags....normally minimal & gex mix could be kept for 3months or so....& remember, get the smallest pack....my hamsters do have left overs too...i just throw em away once every 3-4 days time.....

Yahz.. Heard of nutri block before... But so far, I haben tried it yet.. now still giving sticks to them... Thanks for your info, from wat I have research, hamster need at least 16% of crude protein... Me putting the food in containers, but still dunno will spoil easily not... Anyway, is there anyway to stop a hamster from storing food?? Cos skye loves to store the food I give him in the toilet which is filled with bathing sand and bathe in it too...

Well, storing food for hamsters is their natural habit...there's no way to change such habit...i wonder if u have ever sand bath your hamsters?if u do,u'll see that hamsters will spit out their food in their cheek pouch after being in sand bath for a while.... Btw,what's the breed of your Skye?

Both skye and ocean are blue campbells.. Btw, need to ask for help again... My hamster now got 4 baby pinkie leh... How ah? I tot both of them male, den today suddenly appear 4 pinkie on the wheel... First time experiencing hamster pregnancy so at a loss... Read from website tat giving them high water content food will enrich the mum milk supply? Also, the person hu giv me the hamster told me tat ocean is the papa and skye is the son... But turn out that one of them is a female, i dunno hu yet... Will tis cause the babies to have any deform? Also, can I seperate both hamster after the babies are fully weaned?

Ok,4 babies, isn't it? Congratulations!! I don't know how to advice u,but if it happens to me,i'll separate the male & female hamsters now....& allow the mum to focus on taking care of the babies....hope u know which one is male & which one is female by now tho.....also feed the mum with more nutrious food, like Yogurt drops or bread soaked with HL milk....if u feed the bread soak with milk, then remember to take out the excess food when the mum isn't eating tactically, for 2 reasons....to avoid the mum from eating contaminated food later...2ndly,to take out the food tactically becos u mustn't disturb her or her babies....a few more things to take note...don't touch the babies....if u need to remve anything from the cage, try to tempt the mum away with her fav food or something....also,don't clean the beddings or cage for the next 2 weks too....i know it'll stink, but have to bear with it for 2 weeks untill the babies are fully weaned....& yes,u may remove the babies after they are fully weaned....& whether if they'll deform or not is not for me to say....inbreeding isn't recommended for novice hamsters person.....most important now is to avoid even the slightest movement in the mum & babies's cage.....do keep updates on the babies & their growth.....take care!

Well, I still dunno if skye or ocean is female...Both my frens, hu keep hamster, told me tat skye might be female.. Also, I have sms the adopter asking her to confirm the gender of ocean.. She told me that ocean is the papa, and skye, is suppose to be his son or daughter... So assumin that skye is a female, she shld nurse her babies.. But wat I see is actually opp, ocean, the father, is actually nursing the babies, carrying them around and moving tissue to where they are placed.. Skye is the one who keep on sleeping.. Tats why now I still can't confirm who is female, and who is male..

Da*n! I think i have to see the hamsters before i can tell....this is very crucial as to prevent consecutive birth which will risk the mum's life....haiz....

Today when I woke up, the 4 babies are still there.. Now skye is the one who is nursing the babies.. I guess she is too tired so ocean took over? ?? I seperated them now... But skye seems troubled by the noise from the renovation works down at my BLK.. Its really very noisy and I'm worried tat she will eat up her babies.. I placed them in my study room since the noise is not so loud as in my bedroom... Btw, anyone know where can I get this nutriblock food? Wanna test it out on my hammie...

My fren get his from his supplier.. But until now, the supplier still haben reply to him yet...
Yahz, skye is the mama and ocean is the papa.. One bad news is, skye ate up all her babies... I dunno why though... I placed them in my study area and leave them alone, apart from giving her food.. The babies are still there at 8plus.. When I go give them food at around 11, the four babies are gone.. Think the mama ate them up, cos I dun find anything in her cage.. Izzit stress?

All eaten up!! Oh my.....can i ask u something? Is the mum very fat now? Since the babies is no longer there, perhaps u can check the bedding when u clean up your cage the next time to see if there is any Left Overs....but make sure u check the cage before u clean them in case the babies are still around....there are many reason why mama will eats up her babies....one of them is becos of stress....the others is because her body may have lack Nutrients....if she continue to upkeep the babies, she may not survive....another reason is The mama has no experience....since it is her 1st birth....
