hiya ladies, haven't been here for quite some time.. hmm.. about hamsters, they're quite easy to look after, don't require as much attention as guineapigs. needless to say, food and water in the tank/cage, suitable bedding(no pine). actually there are a lot of hammies websites out there. u might want to visit www.petwebsite.com/hamsters.aspor might wanna ask any questions u have in mind?

I'm back...sorry for replying so late...for bedddings,i'm using BCs too....but i mix it with Corn Cobs....which means 1/3 of my cage is filled with Corn cobs, the rest will be BC. Other things like cage, water bottle & hamsters mix will jus be as what Joyce had mentioned.Do feel free to ask me abt anything if u wish.Glad to know that u are keeping hamsters now...take good care of em & have a good time with them!

JUst pour a layer of bath sand in a small tank bottom...then put your hamsters in it....& watch them bathe!! Do it once a week or everytime u clean up the cage....well,that's what i do....

mm..softwoods are softwoods, harmful to any kind of our darlings. actually i think corncobs are not very absorbant, so I use BC for my dwarves also. sandbath removes the grease from their fur, so when they look like they got gel on their hair(spikey spikey) or looks oily, just put them in the sandbath and they'd look soft and fresh in just a while

There are many types of Corn Cobs in the market....i'm using Chipsi Corn Cobs....those corn cobs are smaller than the normal corn cobs u all see in petshops & it becomes bigger after one week....that'd somewhat reminds the owner ,"time to change their beddings",hehehe....also,in case u come across a Diabete Hamsters...Corn Cobs will become very useful..... The only bad thing i find so far abt Corn Cobs is hamsters tends to make a lot of noise when they are shifting their beddings....& talk abt having sleepless nights.... Also it can be quite messy too.... The good thing is....i find corn cobs more aborbent than BCs....this is especially so,if the hamsters got diabetes & have the tendency to urine on one single spot of the cage....& they really urine lot.... Using solely BCs for my hams with Diabetes,i need to change their beddings once every 2 to 3 days....using CornCobs,it last around 3-5 days, depending on the weather....i find BCs more hygienic in a way, that's why i'm using BCs on 2/3 of the ham cage....corncobs on the corner where my diabetes ham urine most, that's abt 1/3 of the cage. Another reason to put 2 or more types of beddings in a hamsters cage....jus in case either the corn cobs or BC's suppliers in the market decide not to bring in their stock for a while. My philosohy is,never rely solely on one type of beddings....

I know softwood or woodshaving os really no good for hamsters...& i've given up on this kind of beddings long ago... If u are keeping w.w.,then it shld be pretty easy...get someone to hold on to the ham, then u go snap a few pics....in time to come,u'll also know what are your ham's fav food & from then,u will be able to keep em still while u feed em with their fav FOOD!hehehe.... ;D Try hand feeding em often to help em recognise the scent on your hand....they'll feel more comfortable with the hands they recognise that holds em & won't be so jumpy....
