hi, i'm a proud owner of one adorable male guinea pig. As this is my very 1st pet, i'm giving it a whole lot of attention. I've been reading up on guinea pig, and all seems to say that u shld never have just 1 guinea pig. but there's many contradictory remarks to this. male guinea pig wld never get along with another male. i most definately am not getting a female. An article said that both male cavies MUST be neutered, so that they can live harmoniously togather. i read cavy galaxy, neutering is not advisable for GPs, so i'm in a delimma. All seems to agree that female gps get along better in a group. thats so unfair to the male gps. pls help me. i want to get my gp a friend, a male friend, but not if its going to be a war in 1 cage.... krispies........

Not all male guinea pigs cannot get along with each other.. It actually depends on the pigs personality.. There are also some cases where even female guinea pigs cannot get along with each other.. How old is your male piggie??? You can try looking for one young piggie and try to introduce them on neutral grounds...

It really depends on the pigs themselves. I've got younger pigs bullying elder ones at that. hehe. Guess if you're getting from a home breeder or a previous owner, they could be nice enough to let you bring your boy along and just put them together to see if they can get along? Still, a warning, the bullying and fighting might start a lot later too. So all in all, it really depends on their characteristics. Good luck

Neutering won't affect the behaviors of the pigs at all if you're talking about putting 2 male guinea pigs together. As mentioned before, it all depends on the personality of the pigs... younger pigs can bully older ones too.. in fact, it's usally incidents like that which cause fights to break out... it's best to separate the two in the beginning, and give them some interaction time everyday... bathing them and wiping them dry together also helps bonding... I've introduced about 2 males successfully before.. it is of course, best to get a placid tempered piggy..
