I dare to sterelise my bunnies cos its common and success rate is very high...for piggies...dun wanna take the risk, I'd rather house them seperately. Heard of piggies dying from it before

Calf manna is actually used for horses. But in sg, it's quite common for calf manna to be used as a supplement for chinchillas. It's quite a powerful supplement due to the fact that it was originally made for horses. It's a red coloured pellet and can be expensive if you buy just calf manna alone. Calf manna is advised to be fed to pregnant, lactating and growing chinchillas. It's a good calcium supplement, plus I think there is some other ingredients in it. I'm not sure, cos I don't feed it myself. Some chinchillas do get an allergic reaction to calf manna, even when it's introduced gradually. Note, it's a supplement, not a staple. The allergic reaction to it is diarrhoea. That's why there are some breeders who don't feed it at all to their chinchillas. There are other ways to give them nutrients.

so it's still not very advisable to give calf manna huh.. imagine the horse is so big and the piggy so tiny... the dosage shld be quite strong

Yes. But I guess it's up to personal preference, and how your pets react to it. There are some chinchilla owners who say it's real good and done alot for their chins. Those chins were not allergic to it, and they gained weight very fast. Of course, the dosage for the chins is very little, compared to a horse. Only about 1 teasp-oon of calf manna. Some pp feed more, but only if their chins can take it. There was a lady I knew, who fed 1 tablesp-oon, cos she didn't know it's very potent. Her chin is alive and well, just very fat. lol She cut the amount after she found out. Anyway, I think most of us give nutrients to pigs in other ways. Eg. vege. I do give some cranberries to my pigs. Oregon took to it well, but Bubbles is still suspicious of the dried fruit. lol

If you dunno if they like it, just let them try it. As long as you know it is not a dangerous substance to them. You can feed rolled oats yes, which is high in protein. However, don't feed too much cos some cavy owners think it's starchy and difficult for the cavy to digest. Or it cld lead to constipation. However, I can say that I've fed rolled oats before and so far they are ok. But don't feed too much. 1 teasp-oon per cavy is enough. Don't overfeed.

I buy the brand Organic (I think) from NTUC. I don't use Quaker. A 1kg bag can last me a few months, cos I feed a little only.
