I guess local bred animals are more adapted to the weather here. Cavies going at $400 are too expensive. I know someone who imported holland lops himself. They are gd quality rabbits, and he paid only $300 plus for each, inclusive of freight and permits. Pet shops alwiz double the price.

The procedures for importing a rabbit are similar to exporting a pet. As I mentioned in another thread. You must locate a breeder, communicate with him to get some rabbits, pay him and for all the documentation and permits, arrange for his freight, apply for his import permit yourself, collect him at the airport, etc.
The person who imported the rabbits actually imports animals regularly. He is not working with a pet shop or anything. He actually imports chinchillas for his own herd (very beautiful ones) and then started on the holland lop. If I'm not wrong, he intends to keep those lops, and breed them and then sell them to people who might want them. His are quite good quality, he imports from America.
I also got another fren who imports chinchillas for her own herd regularly. After the USA ban was lifted recently, she is bringing in 7 chins from America. They are already bought and paid for, but stuck there for a few months cos of the ban. Now she is finally bringing them in. lol She is real excited, I just visited her yesterday. Her current herd is about 20 chins or so, possible more. I didn't count. Was too busy oohing and aahing over how cute they are. Haha~ Almost all her adults are imported stock.

Umm, I'll post up some of their photos when I'm free? lol Exams are in 1.5 weeks. Am actually logging online during my breaks from studying. I'll post them up after my exams. None of my chins are imported, I've never bought imported stock before. Only the children of imported stock, haha~ 1 reason is cos if you wanna import a chin from eg. USA, you must place them in an air-con room, cos their climate is colder. I can't import any chins just to have them die on me in my room, which is not 24/7 air-con. The USA chin exporters are very clear on this. They emphasized that you must allow them a cooled place to adapt to the weather slowly. Cos the heat can kill them. Only 3 of my chins have imported parents. The rest are born locally, from parents who were born locally. lol Yes my fren is a chin breeder. Can honestly tell you that her chins are real lovely. She keeps them in 24/7 air-con. She does sell her babies, but not cheaply cos their parents are real good quality and certified. I'd have to save up for quite a while to buy 1 from her. But from what I see, she seems to be doing well, cos in the chin community, there are pp who are willing to pay more for good quality. You'll have to check the export procedures when you're over in USA and the import procedures for Sg. Good luck if you import a piggy. They have real nice pigs in USA.

Her chin photos are kept in Yahoo photos. She doens't post on any forum one, only on the chin mailing list. I can ask her if I can post her photos here.
